Design circle as a part of the continuing CREATIVITY workshops invites you to the hands-on woodcut printmaking workshop.

What is woodcut?

Originated in China, Woodcut is one of the oldest methods of printing that was used first on textiles and later on paper. Woodcut is a relief printmaking technique where a design is cut into the wooden block or surface with sharp tools following which the wooden surface is inked with a roller and then impressed onto paper. The actual printing can be done by hand or printing press.

Woodcut was popularly used as one of the visual art mediums mostly to create posters, book illustrations, etc.

Carving of the woodblock .
Taking multiple editions from one block by hand rubbing technique of printing
Multicolour woodcut using reduction process (two colours)
How to reproduce multiple prints from the same block .
How to do pin registration for taking multi-colour prints from the same block.
Each participant will learn the basics of Woodcut printmaking and will take 3 prints along with them at the end of the workshop.
