Event Information

The Kedarkantha Trek is the best snow trekking destination, popular among both beginners and adventurous trekkers. Located within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary & National Park in Uttarkashi district of the western Garhwal Himalayas, this trek is renowned for its stunning winter landscapes, scenic snow-covered trails, exceptional campsites, and the unique experience of camping near a frozen lake. It offers moments of peace and healing in nature, unforgettable midnight hikes, a challenging summit climb, and breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks from the top of Kedarkantha. Reaching a maximum altitude of around 12,500 feet above sea level, the Kedarkantha peak offers a rewarding 360-degree view of the mighty Himalayas, including Mt. Swargarohini, Mt. Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, Ranglana Range, and the Yamunotri Range—making the summit climb a true accomplishment.

This is one of the most popular winter treks in India, beginning from the well-known village of Sankri (approximately 200 km from Dehradun, the state capital of Uttarakhand) and taking 3-4 days to complete. Starting and ending at the Sankri Base Camp, the trek route gradually ascends and descends, with a challenging section leading to the summit, covering about 20 km. The trail passes through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, pine, and other trees such as maple and cedar, along with snow-covered paths, a frozen lake (Juda Ka Talab), expansive meadows, untouched snow stretches, and the steep yet rewarding climb to the summit.
