Event Information

Over the past few months, social media and youtube is going viral with videos of EV batteries catching fire leading to concerns about the safety associated with the use of Li-ion batteries in EVs. Batteries are important and integral to EVs as they provide power to run an EV and its other accessories. Thus Li-ion batteries catching fire poses a threat to life and is a major challenge for business. EV battery failures can lead to disastrous outcomes like a thermal runaway, smoke and fire. Though there are significant improvements in the technology leading to a reduction in fire incidents, the challenge still remains. To overcome this challenge, it is imperative that all the components associated with the battery including the cell chemistry, material, design, components, software etc are well understood. It is also important to ensure the safety of batteries right from the designing stage. In this webinar, the speaker delves deep into the hazards associated with Li-ion cells and how to overcome these hazards with proper Design, engineering and manufacturing processes.

The webinar will deliberate on the following topics;

  • Background
  • Li-ion Cell Chemistry; Type of cell, components of cell, battery configuration
  • Li-ion Cell construction & internal protective features
  • Factors to consider in choosing a battery
  • Li-ion cell hazards; Thermal, Mechanical and Electrical
  • Electrical Hazards Causes; Overcharge, Over-discharge external short circuit, internal short circuit
  • High and Low-temperature hazards
  • Li-ion battery Design and Challenges
  • Challenges with battery designs for EV
  • Challenges with charging infrastructure and process
  • Recommendations for charges/ charging infrastructure
  • EV Battery Performance tests and standards

About the Organizer

This Webinar is organized by Smart Energy Magazine- A Bimonthly magazine published by Genesis Info-Media. Smart Energy is a One-stop-solution for getting the latest information, updates and analysis from the solar and renewable energy industry. In addition to the Magazine, Genesis Info-Media organizes pan India Series of conferences on Rooftop Solar under the trade Name 'SolarGenX'. To date, we have successfully organized the conference in 14 different locations including Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmadabad, Vishakhapatnam, Pune, Aurangabad etc.

Taking into consideration the requirement of the professionals working in the solar and renewable energy field, to upgrade their skills, we also conduct training programs on different subjects related to solar energy. To date, we have successfully conducted training programs in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmadabad and Bangalore and trained more than 500 professionals. Professionals from Waaree Energies, Lord India, Ujaas Energy, Fourth Partner Energy, Vikram Solar, Adani Solar etc have attended the training programs.

With the government's focus on making India the EV hub and emphasis on creating a self-reliant India, the market for Electric vehicles are seeing an exponential rise. This has developed a lot of interest amongst clean and renewable energy entrepreneurs, SMEs/MSME manufacturers, and start-ups ready to leap at the opportunities coming up in the EV sector. To boost the skills, knowledge, and competencies, and create awareness amongst the start-ups and established companies of the upcoming opportunities, policy and technology developments in the EV sector, we started training programs on different topics related to the EV Industry. To date, we have done training programs on EV Charging Infrastructure, Battery Technology for Energy storage and EV applications, Manufacturing of Lithium-ion batteries and retrofitting of Existing ICE 2/ 4 wheelers to EV. In the last one and half years, we have trained more than 150 participants including those from Bajaj Auto, Oriental Copper Taiwan, photon energy, chirayu power, shrim capacitors, terminal technologies, Manglore Refineries, IOL and many other companies. The Webinar is the extension in the series for creating awareness and involving entrepreneurs and professionals from diverse industries in the next clean energy revolution for creating a clean and self-reliant India.
