Vasota Fort Jungle Trek

Overview:

Vasota Fort is also known as Vyagrahgad is an ancient hill fort situated amidst the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary at an altitude of 1171 Mtrs above MSL. The name Vyagrah means Tiger. It was named by Chh Shivaji Maharaj considering the natural defense that this fort has received from nature. The fort is 18 km away from its base village Bamnoli. This distance is covered by a Serene Boat ride which starts from Bamnoli. The fort is surrounded by water on 3 sides and thickly dense forest on one side. Being situated in the wildlife reserve the forest is rich in Flora & Fauna. Many Mammals, Birds & Reptiles like Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Indian Gaur, Sloth Bears, Sambar Deers, Barking Deers, Mouse Deers, Indian Giant Squirrel, Heart Spotted, Rufous & Brown Capped Pygmy Woodpeckers, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Crested Goshawk, Indian Rock Pythons, Rat Snakes, Saw Scaled Vipers, Russell’s Vipers, Vine Snakes and Much more.

    The Walkthrough this Jungle is truly worth an experience. Once we reach the top, this fort never fails to provide the satisfaction of completing the trek as it mesmerizes and amazes us with the beautiful view of the Kokan Valley from the top.

Itinerary:

Day 01: 19th December 2020 – Pune to Bamnoli (150 Kms / 5 Hrs)

Report our Trek Leader at Girikand office at 2300 Hrs. Depart to Bamnoli by 2330 Hrs. Overnight bus journey to Bamnoli.

Day 02: 20th December 2020 – Bamnoli Arrival – Trek – Departure to Pune.

0430 Hrs: Arrive at Bamnoli village which is on the bank of Koyna Reservoir. Have some rest in the Temple.

0630 Hrs: Wakeup call and freshen up to have Lip-smacking breakfast.

0800 Hrs: After completing the formalities of the forest department we board our boat to Vasota. We can now enjoy the views of the Jungle and Mountains surrounding the reservoir. If luck is by our side then we might also spot some animals which come to the reservoir for drinking water.

0900 Hrs: Reach the base of the Fort. From here we enter the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. After a small checking by the forest officials, we proceed ahead to the fort.

1200 Hrs: After a walk of 3 hrs through the dense jungle we reach the top of the fort where a small temple of Hanuman welcomes us. We rest here for some time and then proceed ahead to see Babu Kada which is also an Echo Point on the fort and then visit Mahadev Nageshwari Temple. From this point, we can view the famous Nageshwar Cave temple which is at some distance.

1300Hrs: After clicking some photos we have our Packed Lunch on the fort while getting more information about the area from our Outdoors Experts.

1400 Hrs: Post lunch we start descending the fort and again walk down the trail through the forest till the base.

1600 Hrs: Reach at the base and board our boat which will take us back to Bamnoli Village.

1700 Hrs: Reach Bamnoli village and have Evening tea and Snacks and departure to Pune.

2100 Hrs: Reach Girikand Office and Trek Ends.
