FUND RAISING Dinner with Lawrence Blair and Award-Winning Film Makers at Hotel Tugu Bali, May 7th 2019
The iconic Hotel Tugu Bali as parts of its mission in bringing back to life the art, soul and romance of Indonesia in collaboration with the Bali International Indigenous Film Festival proudly present a very special fundraising evening on May 7th.
Join this enchanting evening as Lawrence Blair, filmmaker, author and anthropologist spins a few tales
about exploring some of the wild regions of Indonesia, and his experiences travelling into the lands of indigenous people. Lawrence is a great storyteller and a legendary figure of Indonesia and award-winning documentary filmmaker of the Emmy-nominated BBC/PBS series, “Ring of Fire.”
Added to this wonderful and rare opportunity to meet Lawrence Blair, several other award-winning and
notable filmmakers will also be heading each of the ten tables set for this magnificent evening. These directors have flown in from around the world for the second Bali International Indigenous Film Festival in Ubud from May 10th – 12th .
Joining us for this evening are; Charles Hill Smith, an award-winning Australian filmmaker of several films
on the Indigenous cultures of Australia and Papua, Hugo Metz, a film producer who collaborates with European major TV broadcasters through his film production company, If Not Us Then Who producing
Indigenous films all over the world, filmmaker Marko Randelovic, a very talented documentary filmmaker
who has produced many films on cultures of Bali and we have the honour of presenter, healer and educator Milliwanga, an Aboriginal leader from Arnhem land in Northern Australia, Craig Commanda and Jani Bellefleur, two indigenous film makers from Canada who have come a long way to represent their
people.
With a filmmaker at each table, this will be an intimate opportunity to share conversation and dinner with
10 of the most talented and committed Indigenous film industry leaders, who have devoted their lives to bringing the stories from the communities onto the screen by helping to raise the voice of indigenous
people, address environmental issues and create beautiful films supporting cultural preservation in
Indonesia and around the world.
The evening will begin at 7 pm with an Indigenous dance performance followed by a few words from
Lawrence Blair and Emmanuela Shinta and David Metcalf, the co-founders of the Bali International Indigenous Film Festival.
A sumptuous four-course meal will be served at Hotel Tugu Bali’s majestic Bale Agung, designed to revive and preserve the almost forgotten stories from the past, surrounding the disappearing cultures of Indonesia.
