Session #1: Software "Test drive"

Entertainment and global connectivity make up a significant part of technology usage today. This trend has also reached the automotive world—an industry known for its rigid and lengthy processes. In this talk, Gil will discuss the need for fast, reliable, and agile software development within a challenging environment like the automotive industry, with its strict processes and constraints.

About Speaker:

Gil Coelho, Scrum Knight at Critical Tech Works

Gil holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has been working at Critical Tech Works since 2020, starting as a Rockstar Developer and as a Scrum Knight since 2024. With 10 years of experience in Software Engineering, he began his professional journey as a Researcher, spending over 3 years working on Computer Vision projects. He later transitioned to the industrial sector, where he developed software for production machines and automotive testing equipment. Finally, he joined his current company, where he develops software for the infotainment systems of the "cars of tomorrow."

He has a deep interest in Engineering, especially mechanical and software engineering. He loves gaming, traveling, and recently discovered a passion for reading. Gil has been a member of the Portuguese Red Cross and is co-founder of a Toastmaster Club.

In the fast-paced world of software development, quality is often seen as a secondary concern or something to be negotiated in favor of tight deadlines. However, the lack of focus on quality can have disastrous consequences, both for projects and companies. In this talk, Patrícia will share her perspective on the importance of making quality a priority from the start. Whether you are a Tester/QA, developer, project manager, or someone transitioning into the IT field, this talk will show you how quality is everyone’s responsibility and offer practical strategies to ensure robust and reliable software deliveries.

With over 11 years of experience in Software Testing and Quality, Patrícia has had the opportunity to participate in numerous projects, working with different teams and cultures, which has contributed to the development of important soft and tech skills that make her a well-recognized professional among her peers. She is also a mentor, speaker, trainer, #IAmRemarkable workshop facilitator, ambassador of the Geek Girls Portugal community, and founder of the project "A QA Portuguesa" (available on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify).
