THE BUDDHA TRAILS 2023 - THE FIRST TRAP TO HELL
In the north of WestBengal, near the heritage city of Darjeeling, there lies a small hamlet called Rimbick. This is a different world here - from the very spirit of the people to the very muse that this region celebrates, Rimbick has a unique exoticism. It is here, overlooked by the Sleeping Buddha on Mt. Kanchenjunga, that India hosts one a kind trail race. We call it The Buddha Trails.
The Buddha Trails is that Hell race where runners chose to mark their entry into the world of Hell we have created. Hell is a beautiful space – that garden of Eden which has not one but many trees overloaded with the forbidden fruit. We think of the Hell Races from a similar spectrum. The ultra adventures that we host are curated and created in a way to create that personal space for you. To be able to bring you face to face with your true selves, we chose trails and roads in some of the most offbeat destinations, we find challenges just as hard that keep you on the edge. With The Buddha Trails, we try to introduce you to the first level of Hell that manifests down the year in the Himalayas of Solang. From the editions that we have hosted till now, we have seen runners make this a thing - to seek blessings from the Sleeping Buddha for their attempts at Solang SkyUltra. We wouldn’t differ either!
THE BUDDHA TRAILS : THE RACE
The Buddha Trails is an ITRA certified trail Race that hosts runners on the trails leading to Sandakphu - Phalut Ridge through exotic villages enroute. The runners run on the Singalila Ridge which crosses into Nepal many times and the views are set to take the tiredness off their feet — metaphorically, such is the beauty of the region. Runners have to run the course with the likes of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse and Kanchenjunga (4 peaks above 8000 meters) overlook them toil hard to keep up their breath.
Villages enroute the race course of The Buddha Trails are straight out of fairytales. While you run from the start line or you race back to the finish line - apart from the ridge between Sandakphu and Phalut, you get your own time with the local civilization.
