Problem Statements:

1. Standard Penetration Test (SPT) has it own set of advantages and disadvantages. One such drawback is the large number of boreholes that it demands. Can you think of a way to reduce the number of boreholes required, or any other alternative method that makes it less time-consuming? Try to come up with novel methods to eliminate the disadvantages of SPT making it more efficient. In simpler terms, we are looking for ideas to pioneer either a new technique to determine the geotechnical engineering properties of soil or an upgraded SPT for increased efficacy.

2. Accessibility and inclusivity are two important facets of architectural design, that make marginalized communities feel heard and valued. While inclusivity imparts unique utilities for the specially-abled, accessibility ensures that the said utilities have been utilized to their maximum capacity. Inclusive Design embraces the principles of accessibility, but not all existing IDs have to be accessible. That is where we should step in. Think of some creative ways to refurbish the existing architectural designs to inclusive designs, thus serving as a base for achieving much more in this particular sector.

Eg: Many restrooms for the handicapped community aren't exactly serving the real purpose. The same goes for the case of staircases and other utilities. What we need are ways to improve scenarios similar to these.

3. This notion of green building practices has its origin in the idea of building around nature rather than against it. To carry the practice even further, we need breakthrough ideas in this particular area. Think about creating a smart material that can detect the changes in its surrounding environment and thereby alter its behaviour to restore the required balance. For instance, imagine a building material that could absorb the excess carbon from the atmosphere in the adverse scenario of carbon pollution, thus contributing markedly toward pollution control. Please note that it doesn't have to be material. It could be any innovative technique or principle that contributes toward eco-friendly and sustainable building practice.

4. After natural and man-made disasters victims may survive in voids that are formed naturally in collapsed structures. In a pancake collapse scenario of a multi-storied building, especially in a mega-earthquake scenario in a metropolitan city, these voids may have survivors. Due to the complex and unstructured occlusions in disaster areas, a visual and manual search is time-consuming and error-prone. This calls for the formulation of a novel system which can automatically detect, locate, and characterize voids buried in disaster rubble.
