#TalkTheWalk 2: James Wales’s India by Dr Uday S Kulkarni
KHAKI turns 5 on 26th January! And to mark the occasion, the KHAKI Lab is hosting an exhibition of Scottish artist James Wales’s watercolour paintings of ‘Mumbai in the 1700s’ from 23rd to 26th January. On the final day of the exhibition, author of the newly-released book, ‘James Wales: Artist and Antiquarian in the time of Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa’, Dr Uday S Kulkarni takes us on a journey of late-eighteenth-century India through James Wales’s eyes, covering Wales’s observations of the nobility, life in the cities and villages, memoranda of travel in India, ‘horrid’ social customs, temples and their deities, festivals and forms of entertainment as expressed in his journals and illustrations.
As a curtain-raiser to Dr Kulkarni’s #TalkTheWalk session, artist Sameer Kulavoor will speak on ‘Art as the Chronicler of Times’
Dr Uday S. Kulkarni’s book on James Wales will be released on the occasion. This and other books by Dr Kulkarni will be available at the event at a 25% discount.
