// FIRST EVER UPCYCLED 'SNEAKER SNAPBACKS' FROM OLD SHOES | TALK + Q&A WITH NISHANT FOGAAT

Combining his interest in Japanese and sustainable design practices with his near-obsession with hype sneakers, Fogaat, an Indian designer, carved a niche for himself when he created the first ever ‘Sneaker Snapback’ by upcycling his old sneakers. Though he initially faced some challenges in his work, Fogaat’s designs quickly gained popularity. He presented his work at Nike’s first Kicks Lounge in India, and recently conducted a Nike Air Max workshop in Delhi. He currently works with brands like Bhane and VegNonVeg as a designer. Come listen to Fogaat talk about all his experiments that led to the birth and journey of his brainchild – upcycled Sneaker Snapbacks.

// TACKLING POVERTY AND PLASTIC WASTE THROUGH UPCYCLED FASHION | TALK + Q&A WITH KANIKA AHUJA, DIRECTOR, CONSERVE INDIA & FOUNDER, LIFAFFA

It is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish. India’s plastic woes are growing rapidly – we’re producing almost 100,000 metric tons of trash every day, of which only a small proportion is recycled. On the flipside, rag pickers, who do the valuable task of sorting, collecting, and selling this waste, are often subjected to difficult working conditions and extremely low wages. Conserve India started its work in 1998 with two goals – to eliminate plastic waste and empower ragpickers. Kanika Ahuja’s organization is training ragpickers to make high-value products from waste through a patented technique which upcycles plastic waste from landfills into an attractive new material called ‘Handmade Recycled Plastic (HRP)’. Come chat with her about the Conserve India’s impact, her newly launched brand ‘Lifafa’ which uses HRP, and how fashion can become a force for good.

// DIY UPCYCLING WORKSHOP - WASTE TO JEWELRY | BY SWATI SOHARIA (**Limited, only 20 spots available, please register separately here: https://goo.gl/forms/F8vR88Fy6tgFU0W82)

Remember all that leftover fabric from the last dress or suit you got stitched? Or that lovely stole that got torn at its ends? Or your mum’s beautiful dupatta that may have got a couple of stains? Our DIY fabric upcycling workshop has got you covered.

The workshop will be led by Swati Soharia, a 2011 graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Design who specializes in knitwear design. Her exposure to the wasteful nature of the garment industry motivated her to launch her label – Swati Soharia. Through it, she trains and employs women from marginalized communities to make upcycled clothes and accessories. In short - Swati is an upcycling ninja who’ll be guiding you on how to turn fabric waste into trendy, unique statement necklaces. Come. Learn. Upcycle.
