Our world is becoming a different place from what it was before COVID - 19. A pandemic of this magnitude vitiates our thought processes into experiencing emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, etc in ways that create an atmosphere where the contagion of fear spreads faster than the actual virus itself.
With this extended lockdown, social distancing, loneliness, fear of exposure to virus and separation from the loved ones, has profound psychological impact.
Amidst the lockdown, Corporate India is struggling right now to manage tight timelines, team coordination, online meetings and housework alongside many other things.
Regardless of designations, this situation is mentally challenging and stressful for everyone. But the manifestation is different in different people. Even the severity many vary from person to person. Some typical issues we might feel are:
Excessive worrying, restlessness, apprehension, panic and unwanted and intrusive thoughts, anxiety, feeling stressed, fear, feeling threatened or just inability to focus.
For others, it might manifest into some physical symptoms like palpitations, nausea, disturbed sleep, insomnia, among other things. Their symptoms are heightened due to the uncertainty and anticipation of future catastrophes.

Shruti Varma is the Founder and Principle Psychologist at Mindo\Openers. After a 20 year career in a corporate world, she now runs MindOpeners - A Training, Coaching and Counselling Company. She has a Masters Degree in Psychology. She has Studied Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Development at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Shruti is currently pursuing her PhD in Human Emotions.
