About the Film:

Run Time: 40 Minutes

"Knife Skills" is an Academy Award-winning documentary that follows the launch of Edwins, a haute cuisine restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio, staffed almost entirely by individuals recently released from prison. The film offers a unique perspective on second chances, skill development, and the power of purposeful work in reshaping lives. Behavioral Angles Explored in the Film: From a behavioral standpoint, the documentary is a rich study of motivation, skill acquisition, and the power of the environment in shaping human actions. It demonstrates how the structured, goal-oriented atmosphere of a professional kitchen provides a framework for ex-offenders to reshape their behaviors and self-perceptions.

What to Expect?

Following the screening of Knife Skills, the audience will dive into an engaging post-screening experience centered on the reintegration of ex-convicts. The film will anchor the conversation, offering powerful insights into reentry challenges and opportunities.

1. A moderated discussion, led by Project Second Chance, will feature testimonies from ex-convicts in India, sharing their personal journeys of reintegration

2. Audience members will participate in a group activity of creating journey maps of different players in the criminal justice system curated by Agami. These exercises will encourage participants to identify systemic barriers and brainstorm solutions, fostering a more comprehensive view of the justice ecosystem.

The event will conclude with an informal mixer, creating space for networking, idea exchange, and collaboration among impact-driven participants.

What sets this event apart is the unique mix of attendees: technologists, social sector leaders, behavior experts, and organizations specializing in justice innovation. This diverse group will offer fresh, outsider perspectives to those working directly in the legal space.
