Dholak Rani by Shivangini featuring Isha Priya Singh
Shivangini is a vocalist, performer, teacher and composer born in Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and based in Delhi-NCR. Shivangini is a U.S. Dept of State alumna. She has been studying North Indian musical traditions under Smt Shubha Mudgal and previously under Smt Girija Devi (Benaras gharana). She learnt Gurmat Sangeet from Dr Gursharan Kaur and Mrs Ranjit Kaur and received training in western contemporary voice under Yeashu Yuvraj. Shivangini's folk music project is called 'Dholak Rani' after a song dedicated to the Dholak, the folk drum instrument which is synonymous to the musical essence of the Ganga-Jamuna belt.
Isha Priya Singh, a design graduate from NIFT-Gandhinagar, has a decade of experience in the precious jewellery industry and has served as an assistant professor at NIFT-Rae Bareli. Currently working as a consultant for craft enterprises, Isha has been a slow-fashion blogger and writer since 2016 through her Instagram page 'Desi Drapes,' which highlights the sustainability of South Asian cultural clothing and handcrafted textiles, particularly sarees. Passionate about the history and culture of her home Awadh, she also writes about the region's unique crafts.
