About
Mapping Basics is an intense two-day program for students and working professionals. It aims to equip the participants with essentials of GIS mapping using a variety of open source software.
What will you learn?
Through a combination of theoretical lessons and instructors led practical training exercises, the participants are expected to become proficient in doing basic spatial analysis and creating publishing quality spatial output using QGIS. The training would cover the following topics:
- Thinking Spatially
- QGIS: Overview, Installation and Interface
- Data Source: Freely available raster & vector data
- Capturing data from the field using mobile devices
- Working with attributes
- Spatial analysis
- Building spatial models
- Map visualization: Map Composition, Map Atlas & Web Maps
Software used
QGIS, QField, Google Earth and TCX Converter
Eligibility
The training is open to participants from any educational background.
Requirements
No prior knowledge of mapping or GIS. Willing to learn and enthusiasm about mapping, however, is a must.
Participants are required to get their own laptop.
