Madhubani/ Mithila is an extremely beautiful, colourful & intricate folk artform which is practiced by communities in the state of Bihar, India. It is said to have originated many centuries ago and was generationally passed on by the Women of the
households. Stories from Indian Mythology, Nature and Daily Community Life were represented.
In the workshop get to know the story of Krishna- a charming and playful young Prince from the Indian Mythology. Make a painting of Krishna playing his flute with his pet calves, in the traditional Madhubani Style. The workshop is in line with a festival
called ‘Janmashtami’ - which celebrates the birth of Krishna ”.
About the Artist - Shalinee Kumari Jha :
Shalinee Kumari is one of the most well known, Internationally recognized contemporary Mithila Artist. She hails from Madhubani- Bihar and has had several International shows. Her works are exhibited in noted Art Galleries like - Frey Norris, Asian Art Museum - San Francisco ; Lincoln Center- New York, Craft and Folk Art Museum- Los Angeles and like. Her works are a part of the collections in University of Wisconsin, Syracuse University,Patterson University and University of Pennsylvania.
