As part of the exhibition, join us for a Kuttu Makeup Workshop by Kattaikkuttu artist Thilagavathi Palani on Sunday, 5th April 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Alliance Francaise Madras. Experience the vibrant tradition of Kattaikkuttu through this live session where Thilaga will show participants the various styles of makeup based on the characters in Kattaikkuttu. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditional art of Kattaikkuttu, a vibrant theatre form from Tamil Nadu known for its elaborate makeup and costumes. Participants will learn about the intricate process of Kuttu makeup, which transforms performers into gods, heroes, and demons, using natural colors and traditional techniques.
Essentials to carry for the workshop:
1. A cotton cloth/towel or tissues to be used by participants to clean, wear, adjust makeup. This will get dirty with makeup.
2. Handheld mirror
All other materials will be provided to participants.
The workshop is to promote an exhibition by SNS Arts Development Consultancy, Goethe-Institut, and Kala Collective, in association with Alliance Francaise Madras - The Female Legacy Project — an exhibition celebrating the legacies of three iconic female artists from Tamil Nadu: Narthaki Nataraj (Bharatanatyam), Seethalakshmi (Shadow Puppetry), and Usha Rani (Tamil Theatre). The exhibition will run from Friday, 4th April to Sunday, 13th April 2025 at Alliance Francaise Madras.
