What is Truth? - asked Pontius Pilate. Since then, or probably even before... human race has been grappling with the question. Today, more than ever, in the age of Gaslighting, Alternative Facts and Official Truths, it is more urgently relevant. Is what is True, Real? or what we see as Reality Truth... or is everything perceived? Also, because a truth or reality can easily be justified, does it become Truth and truism? Welcome to the multi-verse world of Mohan Narayanan...

Masquerade is proud to bring to the public AS A PART OF E02 of KNOW YOUR THEATRE series, excerpts of Mohan Narayanan's plays in one evening! His plays look far into the future, looks backwards into a time before Christ, where the Hellenic and Indic civilisations ruled the day! His works talked of Multi-verse before Marvel, surrogacy and gender-fluid co-living before the acronyms caught on, the twilight concepts of alternative approach to Mythologies and History in India while magical realism was busy on the Occidental hemisphere of our world. They relentlessly question both religion and science, beliefs and proofs. And with much humour in a very Indian idiom. All of them written between 1984 and 2008, post which he turned to writing fiction.

At 88 and youthfully counting his cheers, Mohan Narayayan, well-travelled globally, a quintessential Madrasi, neighbourhood Besant Nagarite, still is in prolific pursuit of arts - writing, music composing and movie-making. After retirement in the 1980s, he embarked on his second innings as a Writer (playwrighting to be precise) in 1984, with his 1st play SONS. Today, he is the author of 5 Plays and 8 Novels. One of his novels, CUTS has been translated in Tamil recently. One is waiting to be produced at Hollywood!

His plays too have travelled very well, having had their premiere by the illustrious Anita Khanzadian-Jones for the L.A based Hollywood Interactive theatre, and locally by both The Madras Players and Masquerade Chennai.

There would be an Interactive session with the performers and the artistic director after the Performed Reading. The performance would be preceded by an excerpted screening of KYT - E01, documenting Padma Shri (Late) Na. Muthuswamy's life and works, presented by Mohandas Badagara
