Hauz Khas Village, more popularly known as HKV, is south Delhi’s hub of popular boutiques, latest fashion trends and fresh culinary concepts and pubs, many of which flaunt a stunning view of a 13th-century man-made lake and the 14th-century ruins of a world famous madrassa. During this experience, we will walk through the lake complex built in the medieval era to supply water to Siri, the second fort city of Delhi, constructed in the 13th century.
About a hundred years later, Sultan Feroz Shah Tughluq desilted the water channels to resurrect the lake and built an educational institute next to it, the madrasa-e-Feroz Shahi. The madrasa also rehabilitated some of the artists and researchers who had fled from the fallen city of Baghdad, sacked by the Mongols in the 13th century.
We will explore the areas where once grand feasts were laid out with meat, figs, betel nut and pomegranate juice. Carpets from Damascus and Yemen adorned the floor and the window sills of the institute. We will also explore Feroz Shah's mausoleum on the campus, a significant architectural piece at that time.
