Gorakhgad Trek and cave camping

Gorakhgad trek near Murbad is one of the must do treks in the state of Maharashtra. It lies near Murbad tehsil in the Thane district. This peak has medium difficulty level and is suitable for everyone!

About Gorakhgad fort: This fort lies near Dehri village in the Murbad taluka of Thane district. It stands on the mountain in continuation with Bhimashankar range at an elevation of 2150 feet above sea level. Gorakhgad trek is famous among trekkers due to its peak that offers nice options for hiking and rock climbing. The region nearby the fort has a thick jungle cover.

Gorakhgad History: The fort has got its name from saint Gorakhnath who punished himself at this fort for repentance of some wrongdoing. There is no mention of this fort in any significant historical event. However, Gorakhgad fort had a strategic value during the period of Shahaji Maharaj. After that, it was mainly used to keep an eye over a nearby region by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to historians, this fort is more than 1000 years old and stone carved steps is the proof for that.

Highlights:

Shiv Temple: One small temple of lord Shiva is there on the way to the fort. It also has an idol of Nandi bull.

Caves: There are few spacious caves carved into one side of the pinnacle. Caves are big, clean and offer a perfect spot for relaxation. One can see amazing panoramic views of the surrounding Machhindragad and Deccan Plateau region from these caves.

Gorakhnath Temple: There is a temple of Saint Gorakhnath at the peak.

Rock climbing: Experience 30 minutes of rock climbing at an altitude of 2000ft! The rocks are carved with enough room for legs and hands to hold grip. Hence, it is completely safe.

Cave camping: Ever wondered what it feels like to have a sight of huge mountains, lake, peaks under a bright moon light with a bonfire inside a cave and a chilling night!

Itinerary: 

DAY 1 :

12:00 pm : Meeting point near Kalyan railway station will be informed to the participants.

2:30 pm : Welcome drink and snacks. 

3 pm : Start trekking.

5:30 pm : Start rock climbing.

6 pm : Reach cave.

7 pm : Bonfire!

8 pm : Have dinner.

DAY 2 :

5:30 am : Wakeup call.

6 am : Have some tea and light snacks and start final rock climbing.

9:30 am : Reach base village, have breakfast.

10:30 am : Start journey for Kalyan.

12:00 pm : Kalyan railway station.

Detailed itinerary :

We will start our travel towards this adventurous trek cum cave camping by meeting at the point decided in Kalyan at 12:00 pm. We will then leave for the base village called Dehri by our transport services(private transport).On the way one can enjoy the beautiful views all the way along till Dehri as the roads are surrounded by lush green trees and panaromic mountain views.

After reaching the base village, we will have some snacks and then start ascending towards our trek. The trek is a blissful experience that one can have. Once we reach the caves, you can rest and feel the serenity of nature with the magnificent view of the sun setting in front of your eyes.

A bonfire would be arranged for you to have the perfect feel of camping. Alongside this we are gonna have some activities like games songs and dance. Auntentic, fresh and tasty dinner will be served. After which you can either sleep and take rest or have a peaceful and fun night with your friends or the other trek companions.

Next day early in the morning, after having tea and snacks we will start rock clmbing towards the peak of Gorakhgad which is just a 10 minutes trek but the most exciting part of the trek. Once you reach the top, you can see the breathtakingly gorgeous sunrise like you have never seen before. Resting there for a while, we will start descending the fort.

Once we reach the base village, you can freshen up as we have proper sanitation facilities available. After having the delicious authentic marathi breakfast we will leave for Kalyan with beautiful memories and a fun experience and stories to tell and flaunt around!

Things to carry:

1. Water Bottle (2 Liters Compulsory).

2. Good grip quality trekking shoes.

3. Toiletries (Napkin, facewash, tissue paper, etc.).

4. Extra Pair of Clothes.

5. Bedsheet and thick blanket.

6. Cap, goggles.

7. Slippers (optional).

8. Snacks.

9. Wear full length comfortable pant.

10. Winter jacket/sweater.

11. Torch

INCLUSIONS :

1. Transportation from Kalyan to Kalyan by private vehicle.

2. Day 1:

Refreshment before starting trek at base village, dinner(veg/non-veg) in the cave. 

Day 2:

Morning refreshment before trek in the cave, breakfast at base village at the end of  trek.

3. First aid.

4. Guide charges.

5. Washrooms at base village.

6. Tshirt.

EXCLUSIONS :

Anything not included.

Terms and conditions :

1. Alcohol, smoking is prohibited during trek. Alcohol can be consumed in controlled amount during camping.

2. Once booked, ticket fees will not be refunded. Ticket can be transferred to another individual.
