SWARAJYA BACKYARD ULTRA

Welcome to the Swarajya Backyard Ultra, a Silver Ticket qualifier for Big’s 2026!

The Swarajya Backyard Ultra is a SILVER TICKET race with the winner and qualifying At-Large entrants claiming a spot on the Indian National Team for Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship - Satellite edition in October 2026.

Entry

Entry is limited to 70 runners, and a 50Km finish or the equivalent will likely be required. 

Course

The route is mainly a non-technical, lush, dirt trail of 6.716 kilometres(4.167 mile) in length. Course location and route details will be updated shortly on the social media page.

Starting Area (Coral)

Participants must be in the starting area called Coral before the start signal.

Start

The format is a 4.167 mile loop that will begin on the hour, every hour. 

Three minutes before the start of each loop (three minutes before the top of the hour) three whistles will be blown. 

Two minutes before the top of the hour, two whistles will be blown. One minute before the top of the hour, one whistle will be blown. 

A bell will ring signifying the start of each round. All runners continuing must be present when the final bell rings, or they will not be allowed to continue. 

They are not allowed to exit the course except to use the porta potty until they complete the loop.

The last runner must complete one additional loop to be named the winner.

All other runners are DNFs, but they will know that they have truly reached the limit of their endurance.

Loops

Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed.

No non-competitors on the course (including eliminated runners).

No personal aid during a loop.

Each loop must be completed within an hour to be counted… including the final lap.

No artificial aids (including trekking poles).

Slower runners must allow passes if required

Runners must wear a reflective vest or jacket from 6.30PM to 07.00AM

Timing

Swarajya BU loops will not be officially timed. Time keeper will manually record the loop time every hour.

Winner/Result

The winner is the last person to complete a loop. All others are technically DNF.

Results of each runner in terms of total loops and distance covered are to be given.

If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is NO WINNER.

The race is open-ended, and will finish when the last person has completed a single loop alone, within the one hour time limit.

The winner will receive a Silver coin and Swarajya BU Trophy and a guaranteed entry to the Indian National Team Championship for Big Dog's Backyard Ultra World Championship - Satellite edition in October 2026.

Aid Stations

Runners are responsible for their own aid, but we will have water, bananas, biscuits and tea for RUNNERS ONLY!

There is plenty of room for runners to make their own nutrition stations at the start/finish. Runners will be able to set up a SMALL tent if they so choose nearby.

Near the start/finish line, runners will have a small area where they may set up a chair for quick access between loops.

Runners are required to provide their own nutrition. Only water will be available, but There is plenty of room for runners to make their own nutrition stations at the start/finish.

Competitor Allocated Area

During the event, runners will be allocated an area based on a square grid. It will be large enough for one chair and one cool box. This area will be randomly allocated to each competitor on the day.

Racers are allowed to have one chair and their personal items (sports nutrition and mandatory gear) within their designated area. Racers and crew will be able to access this area every time they finish a loop provided there is sufficient time for them to start a new loop. 

Competitors may not change areas during the event, and will be required to vacate their designated area once disqualified.

DNF’d competitors are allowed to donate their food, drink and other supplies to those still running.

Crew

Crew play a very important role in backyards. Crews are permitted but limited to just two crew members per runner at a time. Crews may leave and come back if needed.

Leave No Trace

We have a zero tolerance policy to littering, and runners caught throwing litter such as gel packets or any other waste anywhere other than designated waste or recycling receptacles at any time during this event will be disqualified without appeal.Please aim to keep your designated area clean and rely on reusable containers, cups and cutlery rather than disposable ones where possible.

Refund / Transfer Policy

Refunds will not be issued. You can transfer or defer your registration at any time before 28th Mar 2025.
