Known for its association with the spice trade, Mattancherry has long attracted traders, travellers, and merchants from all walks of life. As the evening rolls in, the old town comes to life, buzzing with activity and energy. It is during this time that we embark on a culinary adventure, exploring the rich food traditions of various communities. Indulge in their unique afternoon tea and snacks, which are exclusive to this historic area. Discover the flavors that have been passed down through generations, and experience the true essence of Mattancherry.


About the Storyteller

Johann is the Founder and Chief Storyteller at The Kochi Heritage Project. In addition to storytelling, he is an avid traveller and has been active in the travel industry over the past few years since leaving his corporate career.

He has been documenting Kochi's diverse heritage on digital media, and actively researches and curates sensory immersive heritage experiences to deepen and broaden the understanding of the history, art, architecture, culture, cuisine and the people of Kochi through The Kochi Heritage Project.


Duration, Distance & Terrain:

2 Hrs, 3.5 Kms, mostly flat surfaces and little to no inclines, moderate pace, stopping at various sites along the tour.

What to bring:

A cap/hat, rain jacket/ poncho, comfortable shoes, dress for the weather, water bottle.


Guidelines:

  • Per head registration cost of the food tour is ₹1499.
  • The participant agrees to inform the storyteller of any restrictions that may affect him before starting the tour, including, without limitation, food allergies, dietary restrictions and any other health concerns. The participant shall not hold The Kochi Heritage Project responsible and/ or liable in the event of any health complications arising during or post the walk.
  • Since it’s a food walk and we would be trying out a wide range of street food, it’s advised to eat light before joining the walk to have a good experience.
  • The participant understands that the walk will include physically walking to various locations and sampling street food and beverages where hygiene could be an issue especially for some.
  • Be advised that this walk will feature both vegetarian and non vegetarian food.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided.
  • Carry a cap/hat/umbrella and ample drinking water.
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
  • Photography is permitted.
  • Videography is permitted with restrictions. Check with your storyteller before you shoot.
  • Avoid littering during the walk.
  • The tour route is in public areas over which we have no control. We are not responsible and shall not be held liable for the behaviour of the public, other tour patrons, or any accidents during the tour.
  • Reach the meeting point 15 minutes ahead to avoid delay in starting the walk. Late admittance is not guaranteed.
  • Kindly follow all instructions laid out by the storyteller on the day of the walk.
  • All of our tours are rain or shine, and will only be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. If you choose to cancel a tour due to weather, our cancellation policy stands. If the tour is cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled.
