From the early 19th century, Calcutta emerged as the Second City of the British Empire. It became the political as well as the major financial hub of Asia. The city's relative stability and flourish under the East India Company attracted large and small entrepreneurs and conglomerates from all over the world to set up banks, insurance companies, agencies and auction houses in the city.
This experience takes you on an exploration to the financial flourish of 19th century Calcutta through the stories of some hugely successful business houses in the city who thrived on their agents colloquially known as the "Boxwallahs".
