Known popularly as the Mecca of street food, this Khao Gali or Thindi Beedhi (Tiffin Street in Kannada) resonates with what George Bernard Shaw once said, ‘There is no sincerer love than the love of food!’
This street is a celebration of India's food history, giving us a range of dishes from bhel puri, which dates back to the Mughal era, to new creative combinations like rasgulla chaat. During this experience, participants will be treated to a slice of culinary history (including stories on the origin of the bhel puri, pav bhaji and idlis), a dash of political history (on where the khara congress bun got its name) and some stories of migration (on trading communities from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh).
Located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Bengaluru, this street comes to life after sunset, when shutters roll up and pushcarts make a dash to their designated spots. We will savour the irresistible rose honey cake and khara congress bun (KCB) from the historical VB bakery and visit the many food stalls which serve the best of local delicacies.
A range of culinary delights awaits us, from pav bhaji and paddu (a South Indian delicacy of black lentils and rice), to crispy and buttery masala dosa and rasgulla chaat. We will conclude the experience with homegrown gulkand desserts from Shivanna’s Gulkand Center.
