Basic + Advanced Travel Sketching workshop by Hemali Mehta

About the Artist:

Hemali (@productivitytheory) is a Bangalore based artist who works mainly in Urban Sketching. She has been teaching Urban Sketching for the past 2 years. While exploring the medium, she even chose sketching over photographs during her travels. She believes, sketchbook slows her down, it lets her experience the place in a whole new way, and that's how she started documenting her travels through a Travel Sketching Journal.

Course Overview:

Travel sketching or holiday sketching is a great way to record your travel experiences. This is a two-day workshop, where you’ll learn basics of sketching and painting on day 1 and how to sketch from a photograph to day two.

1. How to select the subject?
2. Basic techniques of line work using fine liners
3. Watercolour techniques
4. How to compose and layout your artwork
5. Do’s and Don’ts of travel sketching
6. Complete a tiny travel postcard sketch
7. All about art Supplies to carry.
   

What you will learn on Day 2?

1. Learn the value of having a time limit!
2. Practice capturing a scene with minimal drawing and instead use a beautiful wash of paint and ink pens.
3. Learn what to put in and what to leave out!
4. Learn about focal points and composition, colour and more
   
   

Nowadays even travel has become fast paced so sketching at locations rather than clicking photos on phone slows you down to some extent,

Materials Required:

1. Pencils
2. Papers - Cartridge sheets or watercolour sheets
3. Watercolour tubes or cakes or colour pencils
4. Water containers or Palette
5. Old kitchen towel or tissues
6. Black gel pens or water resistant fine liner pens

Time: 5.30pm to 8pm (both days)
