A signature heritage walk from The Kochi Heritage Project and curtain raiser for the first edition of the December Cochin Heritage Carnival 2022.
About the Walk
The first European township in India was purposefully built as a fort city when the Raja of Cochin offered it to the Portuguese. The Portuguese built the Estado da India from here. The Dutch overthrew them to establish their monopoly over the world’s spice trade. The British then took over the reins and destroyed the fort. The European colonisers propagated their language, religion and culture, leaving their imprint in this small town which became the Queen of the Arabian Sea.
This walk takes us through the streets of the old fort while we time travel through 3000 years of stories, architecture, culture and some people who made an impact in the small town.
