Chapter 3: Writing a Nazm (60 minutes)
A) History and Theory of Nazm
B) Types of Nazm
C) Comparing Ghazal and Nazm: Exploring the Differences and Similarities
Chapter 4: Meaning and Style (60 minutes)
A) Narratorial Position: Distinguishing between the poet and the person
B) Techniques and devices of meaning-making
C) Figures of speech and defects of narration
Objectives
1. To introduce the learner to the Urdu poetry tradition and provide a deep understanding of the dominant forms of Urdu poetry and their craft
2. To enable the learner to identify and write metrical poetry
3. To enable the learners to appreciate high poetry and explore ways to innovate in thought and style
